TEXTURES
It's fascinating how many options there are in the Decorative World. Layers of color, one upon another create the most beautiful walls. The challenges are in the materials as well as the application...what can be done? The choices are limitless. Karen McClain Visuals Inc. relishes a challenge, an artistic jazz to spark the creativity. My clients become part of my team. The joy of creating is what I must communicate to each and every client.
Each individual project is broken down into concise manageable components to insure the utmost efficiency. Great care is taken from the beginning to the end of each project so that everyone is satisfied.
FURNITURE
It has to have good "bones!" I am always on the hunt for unusual pieces that have interesting surfaces to embellish. Heirloom pieces have been brought to me to "give them a new dress." Just because Auntie Maude's buffet is in the garage, if we embellish it, it's still Auntie Maude's buffet. Right? When I'm working on a show I will choose color palettes that excite me. I want to tell a story with the work so the collections usually have many components to them. I see the whole story in my headthe trick is to capture it, to "realize the dream" in a physical form. I have been blessed over all these years to have an amazing archive if work out there for people to enjoy. I run into a piece of mine on projects all the timeit's like a surprise visit from an old friend.
SCULPTURES
What is a Freaky Fraidy Cat? Dogasaurus Rex? Funky Chicken? Lowrider Kitty? Corn Dog? Amoeba Cow? O-Mega Dog? They are my children, from tiny Christmas ornaments to giant "yard-art" animals...they sit on your table, camp out on your lawn, become a wall clock and tell time for you and are painted on every conceivable surface. Dimensional animals are hand cut and embellished, using many diverse materials.
MOVEABLE ART
A frame...within it floats components that become "Eye Do Art." I encourage the owners of these pieces to place the objects wherever they so choseall of the components, just a few, you decide. Stick on with 3M Funtack and when you want move it around, change it up. Create another version of your "art within the frame."
